Parris Island is a suburb of Port Royal, South Carolina, and an island within the same island. It became part of the city on October 11, 2002, with the installation of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. Parris Island was first settled by Europe in 1562, when the French team led by Jean Ribault occupied the island for a while.
